Before we tour Laos together, I want you to know a little bit about me. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about me or my travel service.
My History in Laos
I was born to a large, poor family of farmers in northern Laos near the town of Luang Prabang. As I child, I woke up early every day to cook sticky rice and foods for my sisters and brothers before we walked to school. We walked three hours to school and another three hours back home, and we hunted and fished for our dinner as we trekked each day.
After finishing my school exams, I had to discuss with my parents to be a Novice (young monk). My parents were so happy with me and permitted me to be a monk. I was so excited and only 10 years old at the time. After 2 years of studying as a monk in the temple I went on to study in secondary school and taught school for one year before finishing high school.
Finally, I stopped being a monk to study further as I worked to support my family. Now, they all have jobs. My father works on the land and makes bamboo handicrafts. My mother is skilled at making jars of rice wine. One of my brothers works at Suphanuvong University, and my other two brothers work at World Vision project. My three sisters are successfully employed as well. One is working at the culture office, one is nursing at the hospital, and the other is working at environment of Luang Prabang.
My Family
Perhaps it was natural for me, after many years of living in Laos, cooking for my family, hunting and fishing and trekking through these hills, that I became a tour guide and have done this now for seventeen years. My wife is a great cook, and she is featured in a Northern Laos cookbook.
We have three wonderful children. The oldest is studying in high school to learn English. The middle one is a monk at Wat Phon Sa Ath, and he is studying to learn French. Our youngest is studying at Chinese primary school, and she is learning both English & Chinese.
